Food miles is a term often used to assess the sustainability of food production in favor of local foods. While it can be a useful shorthand for lower carbon emissions, food miles only examine a small part of a little piece of a very complicated puzzle. While the miles it travels may not be the best way to evaluate food's sustainability, local food offers a host of environmental, nutritional, quality, and community benefits.
